Gallery
Welcome to the My Money National Competition 2010 gallery. Here you can find the crème de la crème of all our wonderful entries from primary and secondary schools across England in 2010!
Many thanks to all those who took part this year in 2010 — we had an overwhelming response with over 6,000 entries and some lovely comments from the teachers that took part! In the last few weeks oOur judges were hard pressed to select the very best entries, but you can see the chosen entries have been hard at work finding our winners and you can see them right here!
We had a lot of other memorable entries, Take a look at some of the amazing ideas we received:
Materials
We had coins made from everything from monster skin and recyc-al-lin to sapphire, ruby and diamonds, leather and ice cream! There was even glitter and sequins! But, as was very cleverly pointed out, a coin couldn’t be made from chocolate as it would simply melt!

Animals/nature
Animals were seen on coins coming from all over the country. In the north we had the hanging monkey of Hartlepool while the south gave us a badger in a canoe! We also saw deer, elk, gnu, rabbits, dogs, cats, swans and fish. Not to mention a frog with a crown! We also saw plenty of lovely parks, filled with beautiful flowers and bright sunshine!

Celebrities
From historical figures to modern day celebrities, our entries had them all! Albert Einstein, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, William Wilberforce and Amy Johnson were just some of the notable figures from British history, but today’s stars weren’t far behind: Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, Dermot O’Leary, Ant and Dec, Take That, Ozzy Osbourne, Frankie Dettori, Andrew Watson and Chef Michael Cain all made an appearance! Local celebrities included MPs and lollypop men and women.

Inspiration
Our secondary entries were as exciting and diverse as some of their influences. Everyone from Banksy, Francis Stark and Robert Rauschenberg to Jeff Koons, Daniel Spoerri, John Raskin and Francis Bacon were cited. As were contemporary artists Damien Hirst and David Hockney.

Landmarks
To show how proud they were of their local communities, the primary entries featured national landmarks to represent their home town. The Angel of the North, The Godalming Pepperpot, Hadrian’s Wall, Southend Pier and Brighton and Hove’s Royal Pavilion all appeared on a number of coins. Not to be outdone by national treasures, pupils’ schools were also a common feature, along with their teachers!

“Thank you for launching such an exciting competition! We all really enjoyed the challenge of working on the 'My Money Values' theme last term. The lesson plans were extremely helpful as they had been so well researched, and you inspired our Year 7 pupils to think about the real meaning of money.”
