Primary competition
My Money, My Community (in association with The Royal Mint)
The My Money, My Community competition has now closed. But you can still use the lesson plans below and invite pupils to design a coin that best shows off their community.
Pupils will begin by researching coins that are already in use; they will also think about what is important to them and their community. They can then prepare a unique design for their own special coin.
You could use the lesson plans below to run your own competition in school during My Money Week and tell us all about it!
How to get started
- Download the following PDFs to look through:
- Complete Lesson plan 1 with your class.
- Before completing Lesson plan 2 with your class, photocopy the pupil section of the Competition entry forms and templates*. – here you will find some questions designed to make your pupils think about their design and explain why they chose it.
- Complete Lesson 2 with your class (which includes completing the artwork). Ask your pupils to complete the questions from the competition entry form.
*There are three different coin template shapes to choose from: 50p (heptagon), £1 (circle) and a blank template for pupils to draw their own shape.
